Description
10h00
Guided tours following in the footsteps of the Impressionists
At the end of the 19th century, the city of Rouen provided Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, and Camille Pissarro with abundant inspiration, in the form of the Seine, Cathedral, the quays and more. Discover a portrait of the city as they knew it: the southern riverbank and factories, the Place de la Haute Vielle Tour and Les Halles, and the exhibition halls; the workshops where Claude Monet worked while he painted the cathedral; the patron of art François Depeaux.
And by the start of the 21st century? Le 108 and its colours! An homage to the Impressionists, just as its architect, Jacques Ferrier, intended. Follow in the footsteps of the Impressionist painters and be charmed by cloud-watching in the Rouen sky, the reflections in the water of the Seine and the contrasting light on the façade of the Notre-Dame Cathedral...
12h00
Lunch in Rouen
(an Impressionist menu inspired by Claude Monet’s recipe books, drinks included)
14h30
Go down the Seine to La Bouille by boat featuring on-board commentary.
Explore Rouen’s port and follow the river down to the commune of La Bouille. This cruise takes you along one of the most beautiful loops of the Seine, in the midst of the scenery that inspired the great Impressionist painters.
Arriving in La Bouille, take some time to wander round this small village, which was the centre of the Impressionist movement and close to the heart of Hector Malot’s, the author of ‘Nobody’s Boy’.
