Guided tours following in the footsteps of the Impressionists
At the end of the 19th century, the city of Rouen provided Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, and Camille Pissarro with abundant inspiration, in the form of the Seine, Cathedral, the quays and more. Discover a portrait of the city as they knew it: the southern riverbank and factories, the Place de la Haute Vielle Tour and Les Halles, and the exhibition halls; the workshops where Claude Monet worked while he painted the cathedral; the patron of art François Depeaux.
And by the start of the 21st century? Le 108 and its colours! An homage to the Impressionists, just as its architect, Jacques Ferrier, intended. Follow in the footsteps of the Impressionist painters and be charmed by cloud-watching in the Rouen sky, the reflections in the water of the Seine and the contrasting light on the façade of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Lunch in Rouen (an Impressionist menu inspired by Claude Monet’s recipe books, drinks included)

Guided tour of the Impressionist exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-Arts
For the 4th edition of the Normandie Impressionniste Festival, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen invites you to explore the life of the coal magnate, François Depeaux (1853-1920), a central figure in the Impressionist movement. This Rouen industrialist was a compulsive buyer, owning almost 700 paintings and drawings. Visit the Panorama XXL: from spring 2020, discover a world exclusive, including up to 55 works by Sisley and 20 by Monet, as well as masterpieces by Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Pissarro. A visionary collector, he was eager to accumulate works to get as close as possible to the artists, and was the first to acquire a canvas in the Rouen Cathedral series that he saw Monet create in 1892-3. He would also come to own extraordinary works such as Lise or L’été by Renoir (Nationalgalerie, Berlin), and even Monet’s Rue Saint-Denis, Celebration of 30th June 1878 (Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rouen).
